Kansas Adult Education allows individuals to start where they are, geographically, academically, and emotionally, and achieve their college and career success goals.

Programs Available

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

Non-credit courses for adults to build foundational reading, writing, and mathematics skills and knowledge.



The primary option for students in Kansas to earn the HSE is through the GED®. The GED® consists of four tests (Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies) that a student must pass, after which a Kansas State High School Diploma will be issued.

English as Second Language (ESL)

Programs designed to assist English Language Learners in learning English.

Accelerating Opportunities-Kansas (AO-K)

A partnership between the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) and the Kansas Department of Commerce to deliver career and technical education at the same time as adult basic skills instruction within a career pathways framework. This opportunity allows students to earn an industry-recognized credential while working towards earning their GED certificate or increasing their basic skill knowledge. Examples: CNA certificate, Welding, Automotive Technician, Emergency Medical Technician.

    Adult education programs serve Kansas adults aged 16 and over who need basic skills for the workforce, community participation and family life.
    We provide high quality instruction and targeted student support services that are aligned with learner goals and available at times and places accessible to adults with jobs and families. Kansas adult education programs also prepare adults for achieving industry recognized credentials and college certificates and degrees.
